Punk rock institution from Fullerton, CA, formed in 1978 and led ever since by guitarist/vocalist Mike Ness. Emerging from the Orange County hardcore scene, the band shifted over time toward a country- and blues-inflected strain of punk that became their signature. Their 1990 self-titled Epic Records debut went Gold, producing enduring anthems “Ball and Chain,” “Story of My Life,” and a definitive cover of “Ring of Fire.” Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell (1992) also went Gold, and the band has sold over 3 million albums worldwide. After more than a decade of new material in the works, Born to Kill — their first album in 15 years — is now out on Epitaph Records.
