The Cowsills are the real-life family band from Newport, Rhode Island that inspired one of television’s most beloved series — The Partridge Family. Formed in 1965 by brothers Bill, Bob, Barry, and John, the group eventually grew to include siblings Susan and Paul, as well as their mother Barbara, earning the nickname “America’s First Family of Song.” Signed to MGM Records in 1967, they scored a string of million-selling hits beginning with “The Rain, the Park & Other Things,” which reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. They followed with “Indian Lake” (#10) and their biggest hit, a dazzling arrangement of “Hair” from the counterculture Broadway musical, which climbed to #2 and sold over two million copies. At their peak, the Cowsills performed an average of 200 shows a year and appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Tonight Show, and American Bandstand. The current lineup — siblings Bob, Paul, and Susan — continues to perform together, bringing the same stunning harmonies and family chemistry that have made them a perennial crowd favorite on the Happy Together Tour.
