Bluegrass-influenced folk band from Duluth, MN, formed in 2003 after frontman Dave Simonett’s gear was stolen and he started fresh with an acoustic guitar. The full band — Simonett, fiddler Ryan Young, bassist Tim Saxhaug, mandolinist Erik Berry, and banjo player Dave Carroll — built a signature sound that owes as much to rock intensity as to bluegrass tradition. They’ve scored three #1 Billboard bluegrass albums, with Stars and Satellites (2012) reaching #32 on the Billboard 200 and landing them on stages at Coachella, ACL, and Lollapalooza. Their latest album, Alpenglow (2022), was produced by Jeff Tweedy of Wilco.
